Club Call Earns DXCC Challenge Award

Members of DDXG, with the consent of the trustee, may operate under the DDXG club call, K4VAC. Logs are maintained and uploaded to ARRL’s Logbook of the World (LOTW). During the October meeting Bruce, WD4LBR, who is the trustee, showed off the DXCC Challenge plaque recognizing that the club call had met the requirements of the DXCC Challenge,. According to the ARRL website, “The DXCC Challenge Award is earned by working and confirming at least 1,000 DXCC band-points on any Amateur bands, 160 through 6 meters (except 60 meters).” Thank you to Bruce and all club members who take the time to work new DX for yourself and for the club.

Sheila, K4WNW, Achieves DXCC Honor Roll

At our June meeting we celebrated our long time member, and current Vice-President, Sheila, K4WNW, on achieving ARRL DXCC Honor Roll. The DXCC Honor Roll is earned by amateurs who submit confirmation for contacts reached within the numerical top 10 of the overall number of entities on the DXCC List. As of 25 Jun 2023, there were 340 current entities on the list, with 331 being required for the Honor Roll.

Sheila keeps her eyes open for new opportunities to add to her DXCC numbers by monitoring the DX news for upcoming DXpeditions. And she shares this information each month through her Upcoming DX presentation. This presentation is distributed to club members, and is also made available to all interested amateurs via the DDXG website. You can find the Upcoming DX from the current meeting in the right column of the home page of this website.

Sheila and husband Bruce, WD4LBR, also an Honor Roll member, are models of amateurs who give back to the community by sharing knowledge, “elmering” new and aspiring ham operators, and supporting our club community. Congratulations Sheila!!!

Crozet 2023 Comes to an End

It’s been quite a year for DX so far – and it’s only March. We’ve already had the number 2 and number 3 most wanted DX entities (according to Club Log) on the air. Bouvet, 3Y0J, was a much anticipated DXpedition. The conditions proved to be incredibly challenging – both at Bouvet and on the air. And Crozet, FT8WW, started out with an extremely limited schedule for operations that ended up being extended much to the delight of DX chasers around the world.

Both DXpeditions are now in the books – hopefully the log books of some of our club members that is.

But conditions are favorable and there are yet a good number of DXpeditions active or planned. One of the best places to get information is the upcoming DX presentation shared by our club Vice-President, Sheila, K4WNW. The program from the most recent meeting is shared with members and also available via a link in the right column of this website.

Here’s to a year of great DX!

3Y0J – Bouvet Island DXpedition

This is the biggie! Bouvet Island is known as “the most remote uninhabited place on earth.” And as far as DX is concerned, this is the Clublog #2 most wanted entity.

The 3Y0J team is days away from arrival and commencement of operations. The best place to follow their progress and gain information on the operation is the 3Y0J facebook page. And you can visit the 3Y0J website at https://3y0j.no.

DDXG is proud to be a supporting club sponsor of the 3Y0J DXpedition.

VP8/VP8DXU

Perseverance DX Group is organizing a team of experienced DXpedition operators to activate the South Orkney Islands (IOTA AN-008) from approximately Feb. 21, 2020 through March 5, 2020. South Orkney Island is currently #16 most wanted on Clublog. More information is available on the group’s website. The Dominion DX Group is a proud club sponsor of the South Orkney DXpedition.

Frostfest 2016

DDXG Logo

Come join us at Frostfest this Saturday, February 6, 2016.  We will be located at the same spot as last year – at the end of the middle row across from the announcer’s stand and prize drum.  The building layout is available here.

DDXG will also be providing the Frostfest test bench.  We will have a 12 volt power supply, volt meter, dummy load, and SWR/power meter available.  You can perform a quick check to see if the equipment powers up and puts out RF.

Please stop by and say hello.  We’ll have information available if you’re interested in joining the club or attending one of our meetings.  We’re also proud to have one of our members, W4DR, hosting a forum session at noon titled “66 Years of DX Adventures“.  The complete list of forums is here.

See you at the show!

Tangier 2014 – IOTA

Members of the Dominion DX Group went over to Tangier Island for the RSGB IOTA Contest again this year.  Instead of using the club call, each member used their own call to make contacts.  WV4Y, WD4LBR, KC4QYG, and W4BNO all operated this year.  We used a Zero Five vertical and an Icom-9100 as our station.

This was a much more relaxed operation than in years past.  We all got to operate, but also spent some time just relaxing on the island and eating seafood!

DDXG 2012 Year in review

RTTY Roundup

Many members of the club participated in the ARRL RTTY Roundup contest in January.  The combined club score was well over 600,000 points.  Thanks to everyone that participated.

Tangier

Our Tangier operation this year was different than what we have done in the past.  We only operated a single station and let club members and guests operate under their own call sign if they chose to.  We had a great time and made several hundred QSOs over the weekend.  W4BNO has uploaded some pictures of the weekend to flickr.

DXCC

Several club members got DXCC awards this year.  Congratulations to these folks for the work they put into getting their awards.

Operating from Distant Locales

At the November 19, 2011 meeting Rick Cook, AB4U, a regular guest at the DDXG monthly meetings, gave a presentation on operating from distant locales.  From foreign countries, to boats, to remote areas in Texas, the presentation covered how to prepare for remote operations and pictures of some of the places he has operated from.  Rick was kind enough to allow us to post his presentation.

A PDF version of Rick’s presentation is linked below.
